Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of
Serbia H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremić paid an official visit
to the Republic of India on 18 and 19 September
2008. During the visit, H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremić met
H.E. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of External
Affairs of the Republic of India and paid a courtesy
calls on Honorable Vice President of the Republic of
India Mr. Hamid Ansari and leader of the opposition
in the Parliament of India Mr. L.K.Advani.
The first visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Serbia to India was marked by mutual understanding
and added more depth to the strengthening of
friendship between two countries. Two ministers
exchanged their views on large scale of bilateral
issues, including strengthening of economic
relations, cooperation in the fields of agriculture,
technology, culture, education. The special
emphasize has been attached to the issue of
unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and its
impacts on the stability of the region, as well as
its legal implications. In the eve of the UN General
Assembly session, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Serbia presented the initiative of the
Republic of Serbia to seek UNGA’s approval to refer
Kosovo’s illegal declaration of independence to the
International Court of Justice in the Hague. Having
in mind its principal position on Kosovo, Honorable
Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of
India expressed support of India for Serbia’s
initiative on Kosovo in UNGA.
Commitment for further strengthening of relationship
between two countries with long history of
friendship, in various field of cooperation, has
been also reiterated in the meetings of Minister of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia H.E. Mr.
Vuk Jeremić with Honorable Vice President of the
Republic of India Mr. Hamid Ansari and leader of the
opposition in the Parliament of India Mr. L.K.Advani
